Residents have reduced utility consumption by 39% by participating in Bouwinvest’s (ESG) Energy Saving Game.

Problem (Users/Customers)
The real estate industry faces increasing demands for digital services and sustainable practices. Property owners and tenants need efficient ways to manage and monitor utility consumption, reduce carbon footprints, and ensure compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. Additionally, there is a need for improved awareness, higher tenant engagement and streamlined operational processes for real estate managers.

Solution
Together, iqbi and its client Bouwinvest implemented and set up the Energy Saving Game, utilising the technologies provided by Rhino and Zig Real Estate. Residents of “Het Dok” in Amsterdam were invited to join the ESGame, by permitting to collect and analyse their energy data. This data is critical for providing Bouwinvest and its residents with feedback on their consumption habits and identifying areas for improvement.
This enabled both residents and property managers to gain actionable insights into their energy usage patterns. These insights are linked and displayed in their resident app from Zig Real Estate. The challenge was to consume 10% less than the average usage, of similar households, each month. The resident who saved the most energy during the ESGame won a 1000-euro voucher for a weekend away.

In total, the residents saved up to 40% compared to the average usage of similar households! With that, the goal of encouraging residents to be more sustainable by providing insight into their consumption was proudly reached. This comprehensive solution addressed the real estate industry’s need for sustainable practices and efficient utility management. The collaborative integration of technologies resulted in significant utility consumption reductions and heightened awareness among residents, showcasing the potential of integrated ESG strategies for all stakeholders in the
real estate sector.
